Supporting Family Caregivers Across Israel

CareGivers Israel is the national nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing recognition, support, and practical solutions for family caregivers in Israel.

Founded in 2014, CareGivers Israel works to ensure that family caregivers are recognized as an essential part of Israel’s health, social care, employment, and community systems.

Approximately 1.5 million Israelis care for a family member or loved one who is aging, living with a disability, chronic illness, cancer, dementia, mental health condition, or other complex health challenge. Many combine caregiving with employment, parenting, and other responsibilities, often for years and with little formal recognition or support.

Our mission is to make sure they do not have to navigate this role alone.

What We Do

CareGivers Israel operates across several interconnected areas, combining direct support for families with systemic change.

Direct Support for Family Caregivers

Our national Support Center provides free guidance, emotional support, information, navigation, and personalized accompaniment to family caregivers throughout Israel.

Caregivers can receive support by phone and through digital channels, with the help of trained professionals and volunteers. We also provide group support, practical information, webinars, and resources tailored to different caregiving situations.

Our work expanded significantly following October 7 and the war, as thousands of families faced new and intensified caregiving responsibilities alongside displacement, injury, trauma, reserve duty, and prolonged uncertainty.

Caregiver-Friendly Workplaces – WorCare

Most family caregivers are also part of the workforce.

Through WorCare, our caregiver-friendly workplace initiative, we work with employers to recognize employees who are also family caregivers and create organizational policies and practices that allow them to remain engaged at work while managing their caregiving responsibilities.

Our work includes organizational assessment, policy development, management training, employee awareness, internal caregiver communities, and practical tools for employers.

WorCare has been implemented across the public, private, healthcare, and nonprofit sectors, helping organizations build workplaces that respond more effectively to the realities of caregiving.

Healthcare and Hospitals

Family caregivers often play a central role in treatment, hospitalization, discharge, recovery, and long-term care, yet they are not always formally identified or included in the care process.

CareGivers Israel is developing models that help healthcare systems identify family caregivers, recognize them as care partners, provide them with information and support, and strengthen continuity between hospital care and the transition back home.

This work includes collaboration with hospitals, healthcare organizations, professionals, and the Ministry of Health.

Policy and Public Recognition

CareGivers Israel has played a leading role in placing family caregiving on Israel’s public and policy agenda.

We work with government ministries, the Knesset, municipalities, healthcare organizations, employers, researchers, and civil society partners to promote policies that recognize family caregivers and address their needs.

Our policy work focuses on employment, healthcare, social services, rights, public awareness, and the development of a national framework for family caregivers.

Building Caregivers’ Communities

We help nonprofit and community organizations establish dedicated communities for the family caregivers they serve, with a particular focus on communities affected by the war.

Through professional training, mentoring and implementation support, organizations learn how to identify caregivers, understand their changing needs, build sustainable peer communities and integrate caregiver support into their existing services.

This approach enables CareGivers Israel to expand support through organizations that are already deeply connected to families across Israeli society.

CareTech – Innovation for Family Caregivers

CareGivers Israel is also building CareTech, an emerging Israeli ecosystem focused on technological and AI-based solutions for family caregivers.

CareTech brings together startups, technology companies, healthcare organizations, employers, researchers, nonprofits, and caregivers themselves to accelerate the development of practical solutions for the challenges caregivers face every day.

Our Approach

We believe that supporting family caregivers requires more than a single service.

It requires a coordinated approach that combines:

  • direct support for individuals and families

  • caregiver-friendly workplaces

  • healthcare system integration

  • community infrastructure

  • policy and public recognition

  • research, innovation, and technology

By connecting these areas, CareGivers Israel works to move family caregiving from an invisible private responsibility to a recognized social and national issue.

Our Vision

Our vision is an Israel in which every family caregiver is recognized, supported, informed, and able to continue caring without sacrificing their own health, livelihood, or quality of life.

We are working toward a future in which family caregivers are not seen merely as people standing beside the patient, but as essential partners in care and an integral part of Israel’s social resilience.

CareGivers Israel – Supporting those who care. Strengthening families, organizations, and society.
